Apple Health sync issues

Troubleshooting permissions, missing data, and sync problems

Updated over 3 months ago

If reThrive isn't seeing your data from Apple Health, there are a few common causes. This guide will help you diagnose and fix sync issues.

Quick fixes

Try these steps first:

1. Force a manual sync

  1. Open reThrive

  2. Tap Settings (top left)

  3. Tap Apple Health

  4. Tap Sync now

  5. Wait 10-15 seconds

  6. Return to Home and check if data appears

2. Check Apple Health permissions

  1. Open Apple Health

  2. Tap your profile picture (top right)

  3. Tap Apps under Privacy

  4. Select reThrive

  5. Make sure all relevant data types are toggled on

3. Restart both apps

  1. Force quit both reThrive and Apple Health

  2. Open Apple Health first and let it load

  3. Open reThrive and trigger a sync

Common sync problems

reThrive reports missing data for all biomarkers

This could mean your device data is not integrated with Apple Health, or that reThrive permissions aren't granted.

Fix:

  1. Open Apple Health and verify that you have enough readings available each week for:

    1. 4x Resting Heart Rate,

    2. 4x Heart Rate Variability,

    3. 1x Cardio Fitness (VO2 max) and

    4. 1x Lean Body Mass (or Weight and Body Fat %)

  2. If there is no or not enough data, connect sources or add readings manually

  3. Still in Apple Health navigate to Profile > Apps > reThrive

  4. Grant read permissions for:

    • Resting Heart Rate

    • Heart Rate Variability

    • Cardio Fitness (VO2max)

    • Lean Body Mass, or Weight + Body Fat Percentage

    • Height

  5. Return to reThrive and trigger a sync from Settings > Apple Health

Data appears in Apple Health but not in reThrive

Your wearable is syncing to Apple Health correctly, but reThrive isn't reading it.

Fix:

  1. Check that permissions are granted (see above)

  2. Make sure the data is recent (within the past week) and with enough readings (see above)

  3. Force a manual sync in reThrive

  4. If still not working, try disconnecting and reconnecting Apple Health:

    • Settings > Apple Health > Disconnect

    • Restart reThrive

    • Settings > Apple Health > Connect

Some biomarkers sync but others don't

Different devices provide different metrics through Apple Health.

Check device compatibility:

  • See the compatibility table in Apple Health

  • Only Apple Watch provides HRV through Apple Health (with some exceptions)

  • Body composition requires a smart scale or manual entry of Lean Body Mass or Weight and Body Fat %

If you have the right device but data is still missing:

  1. Open the device's companion app

  2. Check that Apple Health sync is enabled

  3. Force the device to sync (open the app and wait)

  4. Check Apple Health to confirm the data is there

  5. Trigger a reThrive sync

Sync worked before but stopped

Something changed with permissions or device settings.

Fix:

  1. Check if you updated iOS or the reThrive app recently

  2. Re-grant permissions in Apple Health (iOS updates can reset them)

  3. Check if your wearable's companion app needs an update

  4. Make sure Low Power Mode isn't preventing background syncs

  5. Try re-synchronizing Apple Health in reThrive

Advanced troubleshooting

Check what data Apple Health actually has

Before troubleshooting reThrive, verify Apple Health has the data:

  1. Open Apple Health

  2. Tap Browse

  3. Select a category (e.g., Heart)

  4. Choose a metric (e.g., Resting Heart Rate)

  5. Look at the chart and data points

If Apple Health doesn't have the data, the problem is with your wearable's sync, not reThrive.

Check data source priority in Apple Health

If multiple devices write the same metric, Apple Health prioritizes one source:

  1. Open Apple Health

  2. Tap Browse

  3. Select a metric

  4. Scroll to Data Sources & Access

  5. Check the priority order

Make sure your preferred device is at the top. Drag to reorder if needed.

Clear Apple Health cache

In rare cases, Apple Health's cache can cause issues:

  1. Go to iPhone Settings > Health

  2. Toggle Sync Health Data off

  3. Wait 10 seconds

  4. Toggle it back on

  5. Open reThrive and trigger a sync

When to contact support

If none of these steps work, reach out to support with:

  • What biomarkers are missing

  • What device you're using to track them

  • Screenshots of your Apple Health permissions for reThrive

  • Screenshots of the data in Apple Health showing it exists
